Patriot Soldiers Buried in Iowa

Jefferson County

Jacob Wiley

Jacob Wiley was born in 1753 in New York state.  He died September 16, 1846 in Jefferson County, Iowa Territory.  His burial was in Pioneer Burial Ground in Cedar Township of Jefferson County.  His grave marker was placed by Log Cabin Chapter DAR south and east of Cedar Creek about 11 miles from Fairfield.  It is on the west side of the gravel road, but the grave is 35 rods west of the marker.  In 1995, the cemetery was cleaned, fenced and a walking bridge was built as an Eagle Scout project by Matthew Mineart, a Fairfield Boy Scout. Jacob Wiley served on  Capt. Elias Steenbergh’s Company at Schuyler’s Mills, New York and at the Battle of Saratoga.
