Our Meetings

Chapter meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month.  Meetings start at 1:30 pm unless otherwise noted.

 

Our chapter covers the Northwest Iowa counties of Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Osceola, O'Brien, Lyon, and Sioux.  We meet from June to December. There are no meetings January thru May to avoid winter weather and to accommodate those members that go south for the winter. We are 32 members strong and want you to join us.

 

Programs for 2011-2012

Oct. 4, 2011; 9:45 A.M.

Meet at Farmer’s Savings Bank for picture for newspaper.

10:15 meet at O’Farrell Foods for coffee and tour of monuments.  Minnesota DAR chapter join us.  Lunch at OFarrell Foods.  Coffee and cookies at the Landings club house at end of tour. Group to leave at 4 P.M.   

 

Oct. 11, 2011; 1:30 P.M.

Hostesses: Anita Rosendahl and Mary Anita Juhl

Program: Reports, Installation of Officers, Monuments=Louisiana Purchase Monument.  Patriot stories of newest members.  Report of District meeting.

 

Nov. 8, 2011; 11:30 A.M.

Luncheon at Highlands 
Hostess: Doris Hemphill
Program: Judy Hemphill singing and presentation regarding her photography of the area. End of year reports.

 

April 27 - 28 2012 (Thursday to Saturday) Quality Inn, Ames, IA 112th    

Annual ISDAR State Conf.  All members are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Executive Board Meeting at Colleen Lemkuil’s home

 

May 14, 2012; 7:00 P.M. (Monday) 

Presentation of History Award-Okoboji Middle School by Nancy Tomlinson and Paula Zenor.  All members are encouraged to attend.

 

June 12, 2012; 11:30 A.M.

Pot luck luncheon
Hostess: Colleen Lemkuil and Vicki Johnson  

Program: Heartland Heroes by Elaine Estes Military Memorabilia. (Bring your items for show and tell period.) Celebrate our Chapter’s 100th Anniversary Presentation - History of the Chapter and the and the Chapters that merged with the Ladies of the Lake. 100 year Birthday cake and cupcakes.

121th NSDAR Continental Congress Washington, DC    

 

July 10, 2012; 1:30 P.M

Hostess: Charlene Thomsen
Program: History student presentation.
Optional activity: Prior to the meeting tour Maritime Museum at 11:00 A.M. Have lunch at OFarrell Foods at 12:30 and then attend meeting   
 
July 28, 2012; 12:00 to 2:00 P.M.

Lunch and information.  Membership workshop at the Spirit Lake, Iowa  Library - North meeting room

July 29, 2012; 4:00 P.M. (Sunday)

100 year celebration at Arrowood Resort in Okoboji. Program and Dinner.

Hostess: Jean Fontaine.   

Program: State Regent-Barbara Halpin to speak. Presentation by Mary Thunhorst on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Cost per person: $20.00. Members encouraged to bring guests and family.   
 

Aug. 14 2012; 1:30 P.M. 

Hostess: Ruth Ann Van Donslear and Mary Cornell
Place: Dickinson County Nature Center www.cfofdc.com 
Program:: Barbara Tagami, Senior Naturalist Eagles and Conservation.  Spouses & public invited.

 

Sept. 11, 2012; 1:30 P.M.  

Hostesses: Anne Bonestroo and Pat Phipps.   
Program: “The War of 1812” by Colleen Lemkuil, Jean Fontaine and Pat Phipps. Speaker on 9/11 - Milford Fire Chief

Optional Activity: 11:00 A.M. - Noon, visit to the School house at Kenue Park. Lunch at OFarrell Foods, 12:15 to 1:15 and then attend regular meeting.

Fall 2012 District meeting at Cutty’s Resort

Catered by OFarrell Foods.  All day meeting.
9:00 A.M. Muffins and Bagels and boiled eggs. Coffee, hot tea and juice.
12:00 Lunch: Chicken salad, rolls and pie.   All members encouraged to attend!
Prior evening supper and meeting at the Landings Club House

Hostess: Mary Anita Juhl and Anita Rosendahl
Program: Installation of officers. Induction of new members.  Stories of patriots.  End of year reports.  Report on District meeting.

 

Nov. 13, 2012; 11:30 A.M. 

Lunch at Highlands Dining Room.

Hostesses: Lola Campney and Carolyn Blaue
Program: Michelle Juehring - Her National committee and the NSDAR national museum. End of year reports.
