William
Potter
William
Potter was born August 28, 1767, in Maryland or
Virginia. He later moved to Licking County,
Ohio. In 1844, the family came to Jackson
County, Iowa Territory. William died June 24,
1853, in Jones County, Iowa, but was buried in
Jackson County in Hickory Grove Cemetery near the
town of Emeline. The Lawrence Van Hook Chapter
DAR marked the grave in a dedication ceremony
October 11, 1975. William Potter served in
Lieutenant Lamme’s company of foot soldiers, a unit
of the 10th Virginia Regiment.
