Purpose

The purpose of the DAR Scholarship Committee is to share information about scholarships offered by both the National Society and the Iowa Society with your chapter and with schools in the communities you serve.

Scholarship chairs should publicize these scholarships by emailing or writing letters to your local school counselors. Find out who the counselors are by Googling the name of a school system, click on the link for the high school and then look for the name and addresses of the high school counselor. Here is a sample text that you could use in an email:  School Counselor Letter.

Posters are available for you to send to high schools, one for the National Society scholarships and one for the ISDAR scholarships. You must edit these to include the name of your scholarship chair, contact information and chapter name.

Scholarships

NSDAR Scholarships

Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education in diverse areas of study. DAR’s scholarships are awarded and judged without regard to gender, race, color, religion, national origin, or disability. Applicants must be citizens of the United States.

For detailed information, applicants should refer to the NSDAR flier at https://www.dar.org/sites/default/files/members/darnet/forms/SCH-WP-1004.pdf. All applications are submitted using the online portal https://dar.academicworks.com which opens November 1 and closes January 31 each year. Emailed and mailed applications are not accepted. Chapter endorsement of an applicant is no longer required.

The DAR Scholarship Committee does not process DAR Good Citizens, American Indian, or DAR School scholarships.

ISDAR Scholarships

The Iowa Society Daughters of the American Revolution awards two scholarships for graduating high school students who plan to attend a U.S. Department of Education accredited school of post-secondary education.

The two scholarships awarded by the Iowa Society are the ISDAR Scholarship and the Amelia Jenks Bloomer Scholarship.

Click here for the application. Download it and save it to your computer before entering data.

Complete rules regarding these scholarships can be found here.

Each scholarship is $1000. The criteria and the application process are the same for both scholarships. Your chapter may nominate only one student for each scholarship. You may nominate the same student for both scholarships if you wish.

The scholarship fund is intended to assist worthy young people to complete a higher education. The applicant must be an American citizen, an Iowa resident and be of good character.

Completed applications for Iowa Society scholarships are due to the Scholarship Chair by February 1.  Scholarship applications may be emailed to isdarscholarship@gmail.com or mailed via USPS to the committee chair.
