DAR Magazine Committee
Peggy Pippitt, Chairman
All ISDAR members should be proud of our
award-winning DAR Magazine, American Spirit. The
wonderfully entertaining features and rich
photos are hallmarks of this outstanding
publication, which is a fascinating read for
those interested in history, genealogy,
patriotism and education. A DAR member's
subscription to American Spirit also includes
copies of the Daughters newsletter, which
provides up-to- date news, committee information
and actions of the National Board of Management.
Chapter Regents, along with Chapter Magazine
Chairs, should encourage every member to
subscribe to these wonderful periodicals.
The magazine is being repurposed to energize,
inspire and delight daughters.
- Repurpose American Spirit magazine to
energize, inspire, delight, and support
members in their DAR volunteer efforts with
shorter helpful articles, ample colorful
photos, and uplifting graphics.
- Endeavor to use members’ reading time more
efficiently.
- Create content that reflects the diversity
of our membership while uniting and rejoicing
in our common bonds of DAR membership and
friendship.
- Provide project ideas to assist Daughters as
they plan their response to important DAR
initiatives like their chapter’s Day of
Service. Delve into subjects of interest to
Daughters not previously covered.
- Publish graphics to condense complex
concepts into concise, clear, helpful forms.
An annual subscription to this bi-monthly
magazine is only $18 — that's less than $3 per
issue! Not only is the magazine a wonderful
piece of reading material, it's also a really
great bargain! To subscribe, you can use a
subscription card; visit www.dar.org/americanspirit
or call 1-866-327-6242.
Consider celebrating your successes by
submitting information releases to the Daughters
newsletter. A great way to share the information
is through the "With the Chapters" feature of
the Daughters newsletter, and the
submission of articles of interest is always
encouraged. High-quality photographs, especially
those that are action shots, are particularly
helpful. One submission per year per chapter is
accepted, and there is no charge.
Submissions are limited to 200 words and may be
edited for space, clarity, and style. Remember,
issues are produced several months in advance.
Please adhere to the following deadlines:
January/February—November 1
March/April—January 1
May/June—March 1
July/August—May 1
September/October—July 1
November/December—September 1
