Patriot Soldiers Buried in Iowa

Samuel Lewis was born ca 1766 in Ireland or Maryland.  He died December 21, 1851, in Washington County, Iowa.  Samuel Lewis was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery at Brighton, in south Washington County.  The Washington Chapter DAR added an Iowa boulder on his grave with an inscribed bronze plaque that reads: “Samuel Lewis, Revolutionary Soldier 1766-1851.”   This dedication was performed June 14, 1957.  He was a Private in the 3rd Virginia Regiment.
