The Mus-quo-ta Chapter was organized October 14, 1977, in Muscatine,
Iowa. Our chapter name Mus-Quo-Ta is a word derived from the
language of the Muscoutin Indians who once inhabited this area. The
word means "prairie" and in combination with the French term of
"tine" came the first spelling of our city's name of "Musquitine," later spelled "Muscatine."
