ASHLEY CHAPTER was organized on June 10, 1899, at the home of Mrs. C. H. Cogswell, the first Regent, under the name of Cedar Rapids Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. There were 13 Charter Members. On April 12, 1902, the name was changed to Ashley Chapter, in honor of Colonel Samuel Ashley, who in 1776 was a Colonel in the 13th Regiment of Militia who marched to the relief of Ticonderoga in 1777.
