Abigail Adams Chapter DAR
of Des Moines, Iowa, welcomes you to our web page. Click
any of the links to the left to learn more about our chapter,
the Iowa Society DAR, and the National Society DAR.
The DAR, founded in 1890, is a
volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting
patriotism, preserving American History, and securing America's
future through better education for our children.
The Abigail Adams Chapter has
spanned the ages. From Victorian ladies, Gibson girls,
Flappers, Suffragists, Rosie - The Riveter, college coeds, Baby
Boomers, Generation X ... teachers, librarians, secretaries, to
the lawyers, judges, and executive women of today, we all love
our country.
We are a growing chapter,
preparing to meet the challenges of this changing world.
It all begins through our chapter work. The way to honor
our Patriot Ancestors is by serving our community in historic
preservation, education and patriotism. Join us and share
in the legacy.
As the most inclusive lineage society in the country, DAR boasts 170,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally.
Most of our chapter's members live in the Des
Moines area. However, since we are the oldest chapter in
the state, our members are located all over the country and
Mexico.
