The DAR, founded in 1890, is a volunteer
women's service organization dedicated to
preserving history, to securing America's
future through education, and to honoring
and supporting those who serve our nation.
The Abigail Adams Chapter has spanned the
ages. From Victorian ladies, Gibson girls,
Flappers, Suffragists, Rosie the Riveter,
college coeds, Baby Boomers, Generation
Xers, Millennials ... teachers,
journalists, librarians, physicians, to
the lawyers, code writers, and executive
women of today, we all love our country.
We are a growing chapter, based in Des
Moines. We honor our patriot ancestors by
serving our community and our Society in
historic preservation, education and
patriotism. As the most inclusive lineage
society in the country, DAR boasts 180,000
members in 3,000 chapters across the
United States and internationally. Join us
and share in the legacy.
