Nathan
Brown
Nathan Brown was born in 1762 at Salem,
Westchester County, New York. Brown
was part of the standing militia called
“Minute Men” and most of his 5 years service
was in the state of New York. He later
moved to Erie County, Pennsylvania, and then
to Kane County, Illinois. His last
move was to Iowa Territory in 1839 where his
family settled near Springville in Linn
County, Iowa. Nathan died November 28,
1842, and was buried in Springville Cemetery
east of Cedar Rapids on US Highway 151.
