Lewis
Lewis Bonnett was born 1762/1764 in
Cedar Creek area, Frederick County,
Virginia. This area is now Hardy
County West Virginia. Bonnett died
January 7, 1850. His burial was in
Smith Cemetery, Union Township, Van
Buren County, Iowa, two miles east of
the town of Birmingham. A
dedication ceremony sponsored by the Van
Buren County Chapter DAR was held June
22, 1975. Records indicate that
he was a spy for the Continental Army.
